IDH 3035 Diplomacy Lab

Diplomacy Lab offers students the opportunity to explore real-world challenges identified by State Department officials and work under the guidance of FIU faculty members in the fields of diplomacy and international relations. Throughout the course Emelie conducted open-source research on on human trafficking and human smuggling laws that govern the Western Hemisphere, with a specification on Haiti under the guidance of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.  

CCJ 4694-Human Trafficking

 

This course offers students the opportunity to examine key issues related to human trafficking and immigration through the lens of an international and global perspective. The course was split into two parts, the first half Emelie was tasked with conducting a series of interviews on volunteers with no knowledge on human trafficking to uncover what the general population is taught on the matter of human trafficking and its indicators. The second half, she conducted a series of interviews on professionals within government agencies to assess their knowledge and training on human trafficking.  

INR 4075- Int'l Protections of Human Rights

The course is focused on development concerns of the international community pertaining to the rights of individuals and groups and the institutional mechanisms which have been set up for their protection. Through the course Emelie was able to dissect key human rights issues and concerns pertaining to various ethnic groups.
